Camel Spider

Camel Spider, one of the scariest insects in the world.

Most species of the Camel Spider live in deserts. The camel spider can also be found in the southwest U.S. and Mexico. While the recent buzz is all about the Middle Eastern camel spider, its North American cousin has no shortage of tall tales. In Mexico, they're known as matevenados, which means "deer killers."

Camel spiders are venomous, and their venom contains a powerful anesthetic that numbs their victims (thus allowing them to gnaw away at living, immobilized animals without being noticed). U.S. soldiers were said to have been attacked by camel spiders at night but remained completely unaware of their plight until they awakened in the morning to find chunks of their flesh missing

Size: Up to 8 inches, although many of our readers report larger.

Camel spiders top speed: 10 mph. Which is very fast for a such a small creature.

Those Ants!!!

1.There are more than 12,000 species of ants all over the world.
2.An ant can lift 20 times its own body weight. If a second grader was as strong as an ant, she would be able to pick up a car!
3.When ants fight, it is usually to the death!
4.The queen and the males have wings, while the workers don’t have wings.
5.Ant colonies also have soldier ants that protect the queen, defend the colony, gather or kill food, and attack enemy colonies in search for food and nesting space. If they defeat another ant colony, they take away eggs of the defeated ant colony. When the eggs hatch, the new ants become the "slave" ants for the colony.
6.Wood ant workers live seven to ten years.
7.Soldier ants use their heads to plug the entrances to their nests and keep intruders from gaining access.
8.Ants started farming long before humans.
9.Some ants form "supercolonies," massive communities of ants that can stretch for thousands of miles.
7.The queen licks the eggs to make them hatch.
